  • Even though the version is different, I found something similar. You might have to clear up some space in Temp folder.

Else, Reconfigure new profile to see if it occurs.

Hello again! I was on here about a month ago with an email receiving problem
which I thought I may have fixed…
<<<I am having problems receiving mail via Outlook. It is connected to a
pop
account and it worked fine then last night it stopped receiving mail.
I
can still send email.
And my email is still going to the server, because I can read it if I
connect
to webmail — as well as on my iphone- it just doesn’t download to my
Outlook. Other weird things:

1) Now when I press send/receive the button flashes
orange (it is activated), but then nothing pops up, although mail in the
outbox will go.

2) I tested the Outlook settings again, and the test worked fine,
including
connecting to the incoming mail server. However, I never receive the
test
messages in my Outlook inbox, although they are visible in my webmail
inbox.

3) I wanted to make sure that the send/receive groups settings were set
to
check often for mail, but if I go into send/receive options and try to
click
on «define send/receive groups», it highlights orange (ie it is
activated),
but nothing will pop up — I can’t get into those settings.

I’ve read through all the other posts I can find, and tried various
things,
such as:
-checking all of the incoming/outgoing settings
-creating a new profile
-turning off the virus checker for email
I have AVG Free virus scanner software on my computer, and I
turned the email scanner part off. No luck.>>>

To fix this problem I removed the AVG software from my computer and
reinstalled it without the email scanner (which I was hoping was a safe thing
to do?). It worked fine until a few days ago when the exact same thing
started to happen. I can send but noe receive emails and I get the following
error message: 0x800300FD. I cannot seem to find out what this particular
error means so I was wondering if someone could help me? Thanks!!

The error reads: Task ‘Stacy — Receiving’ reported error (0x800300FD) :
‘Unknown Error 0x800300FD’

and that is all it says…
I have Outlook 2003 part of Office Standard Addition. Account type-
POP/SMTP. AVG Free 8.0

Again, thanks for your help!

The first thing you should do is to uninstall AVG and reinstall it without
the mail scanning feature. You want to eliminate as many interference
factors as possible when diagnosing a problem. After doing that, try the
action again and report any differences.

I unsinstalled AVG 8.0 Free (I had done that previously and reinstalled w/o
the email scan about a month ago). Again, I reinstalled it- this time when
the prompt came up during instalation about what to include in the
installation-

email scanner—
-I unchecked- plug-in for the Bat!
— I unchecked- plug-in for microsoft outlook
— I unchecked- personal email scanner

this time I also-
-unchecked- plug-in for microsoft office 2000/XP/2003/2007

All of this worked- I am now receiving emails again! Thank you!
BUT… this is pretty much the same thing I did last month (except I hadn’t
unchecked the plug-in for micrisoft office). So, my questions are…

1) Will I have to keep uninstalling/reinstalling AVG once a month?
2) Is it dangerous not to have an email scanner?
3) Is this a bug in outlook or AVG? Is there something other than AVG that
I can run so I don’t have this problem?

Thanks for your time and your help!!

Stacy

I forgot to add: after I installed AVG 8.0 free I got an alert that the
resident shield was not active- I am not sure what that means? Would it have
anything to do with not selecting one of the aforementioned plug-ins?

1) Will I have to keep uninstalling/reinstalling AVG once a month?

I use AVG on one of my PCs and have never had to readjust anything. I get
frequent updates, just like everyone else.

2) Is it dangerous not to have an email scanner?

No. The first thing you must realize if that your brain is your most
powerfule antivirus tool. If you receive a message with an attachment and
you don’t recognize the sender, delete the message without even looking at
it. If you receive a message with an attachment and you do recognize the
sender but did not request the attachment, delete the message without
looking at it. If you did request the attachment, save it to disk before
opening it. The resident shield will catch it. Of course, you must be
running the resident shield.

3) Is this a bug in outlook or AVG? Is there something other than AVG
that
I can run so I don’t have this problem?

I believe it to be the nature of the configuration. Whenever something
wedges itself between a mail client and the server you run the risk of an
anomaly like this.

I don’t believe AVG has the option to leave out the resident shield so if
you see that message, something’s not correct. I do not believe it is
related to not selecting the plug-ins.

I have the exact same problem, but no AVG on my system (I have Norton) and
nothing has changed in months as far as new software on the system.
Cannot receive, but can send out emails & the same error number.

Any pointers would help….

Thanks.

I have the exact same problem, but no AVG on my system (I have Norton)

Symantec products are known to cause problems in Outlook.

nothing has changed in months as far as new software on the system.

So, you never let Norton update?

Usha

  • #11

Of course, I do get the automated updates for Norton on both my computers,
but this is the first time I have come across this problem.
So do you suggest, I uninstall & re-install Norton — would that solve the
problem?

This did not work either! I did uninstall Norton & still couldn’t receive
emails on outlook.

I’m also having what seems to be the same problem, «Task ‘xxxxx — Receiving’
reported error (0x800300FD) : ‘Unknown Error 0x800300FD’

The problem has been going on for a while and I have been able to
temporarily fix it by doing things like creating a new Outlook profile or
cleaning up temporary files. Unfortunately, the problem returns in a day or
so. When the problem is active, clicking on the send/receive button seems to
do absolutely nothing. If I use the popup to try to investigate Send/Receive
groups, the expected dialog doesn’t show up.

I’m running Outlook logging. I can see a normal pattern of periodic checking
for mail while things are working. When the error starts being reported, the
log shows the following sequence:

2009.06.12 15:32:09 debbieXxxx: Synch operation started (flags = 00000001)
2009.06.12 15:32:09 debbieXxxx: UploadItems: 0 messages to send
2009.06.12 15:32:09 debbieXxxx: Synch operation completed
2009.06.12 15:32:09 debbieXxxx: Synch operation started (flags = 00000030)
2009.06.12 15:32:09 debbieXxxx: DoPOPDownload(flags = 00000030, max msg =
ffffffff): full items
2009.06.12 15:32:09 debbieXxxx: POPDownload: Retrieving blob failed (hr =
0x800300fd)
2009.06.12 15:32:09 debbieXxxx: ReportStatus: RSF_COMPLETED, hr = 0x800300fd
2009.06.12 15:32:10 debbieXxxx: Synch operation completed
2009.06.12 15:37:10 debbieXxxx: Synch operation started (flags = 00000001)
2009.06.12 15:37:10 debbieXxxx: UploadItems: 0 messages to send
2009.06.12 15:37:10 debbieXxxx: Synch operation completed
2009.06.12 15:37:10 debbieXxxx: Synch operation started (flags = 00000030)
2009.06.12 15:37:10 debbieXxxx: DoPOPDownload(flags = 00000030, max msg =
ffffffff): full items
2009.06.12 15:37:10 debbieXxxx: POPDownload: Retrieving blob failed (hr =
0x800300fd)
2009.06.12 15:37:10 debbieXxxx: ReportStatus: RSF_COMPLETED, hr = 0x800300fd
2009.06.12 15:37:10 debbieXxxx: Synch operation completed

This pattern then repeats. If I click the Send/Receive button, nothing shows
in the log.

I’m using Norton (NIS 2009) and have tried disabling it with no change in
symptoms.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

Mike

Some further information, I noticed there were 6 Outlook.exe processes in
the task manager. There were also 4 Unread email icons in the systray.

Killing the 6 processes restored normal operation (at least for a while).
Now I need to figure out what causes the extra processes.
