Gethostbyname failed ark как исправить

After posting this my friends and I realized the server was actually still running and we were able to connect. We did find that the server didn’t always show up the list of non-official servers, though, without a hitting refresh a few times. We also realized we needed to check the box to show servers with passwords. There’s so many poor decisions in the this UI, the devs need to re think it.

Devs, here’s a couple things that would help here:

1. Allow users to directly enter the name of the server, or the IP, without having to use the Unofficial server list.

2. Default «Show servers with passwords» to checked after install.

3. Figure out why servers don’t always show in the Unofficial server list if you’re going to insist on forcing user to use it.

I run two servers, and I’ve had no issue with either of them up until this update. Now they both let ME in but my gf is timing out before even loading mods. The title of this post is what I’m seeing in the loading logs of both servers, and I’ve changed absolutely nothing in either of them; so what’s causing this, and how do I fix it?

This is NOT an ASM issue — it is an ARK issue. You would be better finding your answer on the ARK forums.

Please check the FAQ’S

Because we need to answer NEW questions. Asking questions that have already been answered takes time away from developing ASM into the best server manager possible.

«SteamSocketOpenSource: gethostname failed ()» Server Issue

I run a server from my own computer for me and one other friend to play on. I just made it yesterday and have made a server the same way in the past using SteamCMD. We are using the Crystal Isles map and my server start command line looks like this:

start ShooterGameServer.exe CrystalIsles?SessionName=MAD_cause_BAD?MaxPlayers=6?Port=7777?QueryPort=27015?ServerPassword=4234?ServerAdminPassword=4234

I have portforwarded both 7776-7778 and 27014-27016 ports. I launched the server the first time and it came up with this error:

«SteamSocketOpenSource: gethostname failed ()
gethostname failed ()

Shortly after these messages the server launcher crashes before it finishes fully loading up the server. I am yet to find a fix for this, so anything that may fix it is appreciated.

I’ve been having the same error over the last week since the most recent patch. Been looking at a lot of different posts to try to find a fix and seem to have found similar things to you — changing port forwarding etc. I wouldn’t mind so much having the gethostname failed message pop up but the server was visible as a random name and no password despite both of these having been specified in ark server manager and although I could join the server on my machine (same computer) my friends could not (time out message).

Given the recent crossplay addition with Epic Games I thought maybe that was the problem so I enabled Vivox (- UseVivox) to make it Steam only. Although I am still getting the gethostname failed message my server ran perfectly with no issues including the correct server name and password. I also enabled RCON but I doubt that will have made a difference.

Perhaps try this and see if you get the same luck!

The only thing i can tell you is that your crash is not related to this «gethostname failed» message. You can ignore this message.
Thats some «feature» wildcard added with Crystal. it has no negative and no positive effect. All servers are seeing this.

Your crash is mostly related to any mods you have installed.

I have tried my server with and without the mods installed or put into ActiveMods. It doesn’t work 90% of the time and occasionally the server will launch. I really don’t understand what could be the problem here.

I keep getting this error on multiple unofficial servers I am trying to host. I never used to get this in the past. I am currently using Ark Server Manager to host my servers on a server PC I play ark and can see the servers on the unofficial list and my LAN list. My friends can see the game if they add it to their steam favorites but can only connect some of the times by favorites or using steam servers listing. I use Unifi networking equipment if that helps.

What have I tried?
Enabling/disabling UPNP and NAT
Loopback adapter added with WAN IP
Adding ports in firewall, disabling firewall on PC
Enabling Vivox
Disabling all crossplay settings

If I do figure it out I will make an update on exactly what resolved it as I’ve seen other posts about it with no real solution.

I’ve run multiple Ark clusters on same PC as I play on without ever setting a loopback nor a VPN. Now nothing I do works and I cant see my other maps when I am in game and servers dont show. 100% my ports are correct. Yes override is clicked, yes their ClusterID matches, yes downloads enables, yess filtering is clicked. What has changed and what do I need to do to fix this?

ARK dedicated server «SteamSocketsOpenSource: gethostname failed ()»

I’m using Ark server manager, I have forwarded the ports 7777 and 27016 and have them set in the manager. Ark server manager also has my correct public IP address and my local IP is selected as well. My firewall rules allow the server to get through and my antivirus software has exceptions for the program. My buddy still can’t connect to my dedicated server.

Any ideas on other fixes?

I got mine server working, and it shows up under unoffical now..2 friends verified. I just worked 12 hours last night so bear with me, as I try to share what worked for me. I use ASM and run a dedicated server and my friends couldn’t see me listed anymore in their favorites or through unofficial listings. Occasionally the other day when I was trying to make it work they would sometimes find me, but would always get ‘timed out error’.

Before the problem strarting happeing my query port was 27015, and my server port was 7777, and I only had these forwarded in my router. This morning I checked defender firewall settings..all were good. I checked my router’s forwarded ports next and noticed that my Ip for these ports was off by one number..hadn’t been in my router in a year..don’t know why. I changed it to my correct ip and went ahead and forwarded 7776 through 7778, and 27014 through 27016..all set for tcp and udp. Loaded Ark server manager and used my usual settings of 7777 and 27015. I forgot to mention..the first thing I did when I got home was power down and back up the router.

Still get the gethostnamefailed () thing, but my server shows up for my friends and no timeout errors anymore. Hope this helps someone..going to be bed now..
Oh yeah..my server runs Ragnorok, and 12 mods..one being Structures plus..if that helps.

I’m in the same boat. Older severs that I had setup with ports between 7777-7785 and 27015-27019 are still working. Trying to add a crystal island server to the mix and it simply is not showing up in the game browser. It is showing up in steam if you add it by ip:port. But if you try to connect it refuses/times out. Ark Server Manager has correctly forwarded relevant ports for the new server (at least in the same manner as the prior servers).

Not sure if this will help you or not, but i just confirmed that Shootergame is useing a +1 port by default now. Current ports are hardcoded as 7777, 27015 in the server, raw sockets is disabled.

Ok i got it working now so basically the crossplay thing did nothing. Open 7777 TCP/UDP did the magic for me.

have fun if you have an external firewall dont forget to open it there only windows isnt enough then.

This is what did it for me. When I tried hosting my server nothing would show up on the server list. Also every time one of my friends tried to connect or I try to connect to the dedicated server I get a timeout issue. In my logs the only error I could see was the gethostname failed. As soon as I added all the port as TCP and UDP for my port forwarding. It started working. Before I only had UDP with the exception of the rcon one that was TCP.

Now it’s showing on the server list and my friends can join. Thanks!

I had it on both all along though. So. is it one of those cases where if you had it only on one then changed to both it’ll work but if u had it on both to begin with then you’re out of luck?

ShootergameServer.exe does NOT use TCP for the server and query port. It only will use TCP on a random listening port. Changing settings to do both UDP & TCP vs just UDP will not change anything. I for one, run both UDP & TCP and still have the issue.

Is there any way or would you happen to know how to transfer and what files to transfer over to Ark Server manager since I was using the ShootergameServer.exe thing

It sort of helped me. It seems that you can’t really use any arbitrary range of ports anymore, or at least I couldn’t. Crystal isles starts up fine, along with any other sever that I run with ports close to 7777, and 27015 to 27020. It isn’t findable if you use a listening port like say 37015, even with proper forwarding. Pain in the ass because I’ve got server files for every ark.

I wonder if this a combination of raw sockets disabled AND the ability to resolve steam sockets? The servers with funky port numbers show up in the steam browser, but cannot be joined for me. I was not using raw sockets prior to update either.

Whats stopping people from connecting to servers? On our cluster we have some players like myself who can connect using steam connect but then there are others who always get «Server is not responding»

All our ports were changed due to this update and they have been opened. Finding the server doesn’t seem to be the issue. I changed the ports a second time and it worked for a few more players but some still cannot connect.

Wondering if I am doing something wrong T-T

Having the same problem here. Getting the «SteamSocketsOpenSource: gethostname failed ()» error in the startup-log.

The server still appears in the list in-game, but I get the timeout-error when attempting to join it. Same happens when my gf tries on her computer here next to me. My friend positioned in another city, (in other words, not local) is however able to join it, and for him everything works as normal.

Happened with the big Ark-update now recently. Versions 311.74 and 311.79 (asm)

Have tried the «extra ports theory» mentioned here, opening 7776 and 7778 as well as 27014 and 27016. Didn’t help.

Eager to get this fixed.

Steamsocketsopensource gethostname failed ark что делать

Having same issues with my server, no raw sockets, ports wide opened, even just a single server running. Rolling the server back to a previous version didn’t help for client 311.79 to connect as I was having the same timeout with the new client version. I was able to connect from a machine that I keep ark updates suspended on though. So this is partially a client as well as a server issue as some other people have noted.

The ‘necessary server args’ section. Has anyone tried adding the ‘-crossplay’ lines and successfully consistently gotten connection working? I don’t want to update my server again and I’m copying over the 211GB client from my other machine so I can continue to play on my server so I don’t want to update again to bother testing it.

Can anyone with ongoing issues thats still troubleshooting, confirm if this has any effect?

I JUST SOLVED THE PROBLEM ON MY SERVER!

I have 5 ARKS on my server: Ragnarok, The Island, Valguero, Extinction and now Crystal Isles.

These two maps had ports in quick succession (27021/27022 and 7778/7779).

I just turned off The Island and gave it ports which were farther away from Valguero (27040 and 7790). When I booted the map, it worked without issues. Only issue was that the map was 0 days old, but profiles and structures were still there.

Meanwhile I’m just trying to start one map on my server and still get the issue.

Hi.

I’ve been wrestling with this issue for a few days now. An Internet search brought up posts and discussions where people claim to have this issue, but I haven’t seen a reliable resolution. I’m hoping someone here might be able to help me.

When I launch Atlas and go to the server list, I can see my server. My friend who lives on Florida cannot see my server in the list.

Does anyone know how to resolve this issue? I did host an Atlas server a year ago or so and we were able to play fine. I’ve also run Ark, DnL, Conan Exiles, and other games as dedicated servers in the past and also had no issues.

Any help is appreciated.
