The gaming world has seen a revolution with the meteoric rise of Fortnite, captivating players across the globe with its engaging gameplay and immersive battle royale experience. Meanwhile, Steam has become the premier platform for managing an extensive library of games on PC. It’s only natural, then, to seek ways of unifying these two powerhouses of the gaming industry. In our meticulously crafted guide, we’ll teach you the ins and outs of adding Fortnite to your Steam library with ease. Delve into the intricacies of file management, launcher integration, and customization, as we empower you to bridge the gap between these gaming titans. Embrace the convenience of accessing Fortnite through Steam and elevate your gaming experience to new heights. The battle bus is waiting, so let’s get started!
Add a Non-Steam Game to your Library
Open your Steam library by searching for Steam in your taskbar search and then navigating to the Library tab in your Steam launcher.

Our Fortnite Steam Guide takes a look at how-to install and play the game through Steam! It’s a pretty simple process to add to the popular game library, and this will allow you to play it through Steam Link if you are a PC player but want to play from your couch.
While the two companies might be at odds in terms of competing for the hearts and game libraries of gamers everywhere, you can still launch Fortnite through Steam and take advantage of some of the benefits that Steam provides! You can play either the Battle Royale or Save the World versions by utilizing this setup.
Installing & Playing Fortnite on Steam
This is a pretty easy process to complete, you should obviously have Steam already installed!
Step 1: Install Fortnite Through the Epic Games Launcher
Yes, unfortunately you can’t really install Fortnite via Steam without having the Epic Games Launcher installed. So, you just have to bite the bullet and install it normally. You can download it right here. Once you’ve gotten that, login to your Epic account and install Fortnite.
Step 2: Open Up Steam & Navigate to the Add a Game Button
Once you have Steam open, you can look to the bottom left of your screen and you will find the Add a Game button! Press that button and three options will pop-up for you: Add a Non-steam Game, Activate a Product on Steam, and Browse the Steam Store for Games. Click the «Add a Non-Steam Game» option.
Step 3: Find Fortnite
You will be presented a list of possible program options you might want to add to your Steam Library. Go ahead and look for Fortnite! If you find it, click the box next to it to select it and then press the «Add Selected Programs» button.
If you can’t find it, you’ll have to locate it manually. Click the «Browse» button at the bottom of this menu. You will now need to find your Epic Games folder. This is likely in your C-drive and in the Program Files folder. If you installed in a custom location, you’ll have to navigate to it. For instance, I installed mine in a separate drive that I specifically have for games. Once you’ve located the folder, you will need to navigate through the following folders:
- Epic Games
- Fortnite
- FortniteGame
- Binaries
- Win64 (Win32 maybe?)
Once you’ve located the Win64 folder, you will want to click on the FortniteLauncher.exe file. Go ahead and click the open button from there. Now, it will show Fortnite as checked in the menu, you can then hit the «Add Selected Programs» button.
Step 4: Edit the Shortcut
You’ll notice that it’s called «FortniteLauncher» as your shortcut. If you want, you can make this a bit prettier by changing it. Right click on it, hit properties, then remove the «Launcher» text so it just reads Fortnite when you are playing the game.
Step 5: Play Fortnite
You can now use that shortcut to launch Fortnite and play as you usually would! You can use the Shift + Tab shortcut while in the game to access all of the Steam features you’d normally be able to use with any other game!
How to get Fortnite on steam
Fortnite is the hottest game right now and you have probably landed on this article because you are a frustrated steam user that wants to access Fortnite Battle Royale through valve’s legendary platform and enjoy the convenient steam chat while playing the game.
If that’s the case I highly suggest you to follow this guide as it is dedicated to those of you who are tired of juggling between the epic games launcher and Steam to access all of your games in one place.
Without further ado lets dive straight into this guide and get Fortnite on your Steam library in no time!
Step One
Open Steam and navigate to your games library page (Circled in orange in the picture below)
Step Two
Hit the “Add a game” button at the bottom left corner (Circled in orange in the picture below)
Step Three
Hit the “Add a non steam game” option
Step Four
Select the Fortnite option in the “Add a game” popup window that appears. If you can’t find Fortnite in the popup window hit the “browse” button.
Navigate to your Fortnite Binaries folder which can be usually found at C:EpicGamesFortniteFortniteGameBinariesWin64 OR D:EpicGamesFortniteFortniteGameBinariesWin64.
Then you should open the “FortniteLauncher.exe” file. You should then have Fortnite available through steam!
And that’s it you can now enjoy Fortnite through steam!
Step Six (Optional) – Changing the name
If you would like to change the Fortnite name to “Fortnite” instead of “FortniteLauncher” you can do so by clicking the right mouse button while hovering over Fortnite in your steam library and click the “Properties” button.
you will then get the following popup window:
Step Seven (Optional) – Communicating with your steam friends and accessing the steam platform in-game
Probably the biggest advantage to playing Fortntie via steam is the ability to communicate with your steam friends while playing, you can also use the very convenient steam voice app and enjoy an uninterrupted communication line with your friends while playing squads with other people. (Just mute the Fortnite chat and use Steam voice instead)
To access all of these features and more simply press tab+shift and enjoy everything steam has to offer!
Conclusion
I hope you can now easily access Fortnite through steam and that this guide was easy to follow! Keep in mind that you can add any other non-steam game to your steam library and truly have access to all of your games via one platform (Steam).
