The Medieval 2 Total War is a strategy game in which you have to hold settlements, attack other regions, and managing agents. Along with that, there are some great mod packs for this game that can make the overall experience more interesting. However, there are still some issues with glitches in the AI and diplomacy aspect of this game.
Recently, many users reported issues with the game crashing a few seconds after players try to load it. An error message “Medieval 2 Total War Encountered an Unspecified Error and Will Now Exit” will pop up and the game will crash. Here are some solutions that might help you fix this problem.
- Remove Mods
Just like the majority of other games, faulty mods can create problems for users. So, if you are using mods and keep running into this error then you will need to remove the mods files from your PC. To remove the mods, you need to find the mod folder in your game files and then remove these folders from your PC. However, other players have mentioned that the easiest method to remove the mods would be to reinstall the game on your PC. So, if you have the time, then remove Medieval 2 from your PC and then install it again.
You can also try your luck with file verification from the Steam client before reinstalling the game. There is a slim chance that the verification process will fix the game files and you won’t have to bother with other solutions. Luckily, the verification process only takes a few minutes to complete and it is worth a try if you want to save your time. If the game is not fixed after verifying the game files, then you should go ahead and reinstall it on the PC. Remember to remove the game folder as well after removing the files from your PC.
- Use Compatibility Mode
If the problem is not fixed by removing the mods from your game, then you should check the compatibility options. To do that, you should access the game folders from the file explorer and then navigate to the Medieval 2 executable file. Right-click on this file and then click on properties to access the pop-up menu. Now, you can switch to the compatibility options and make sure that the program is running in compatibility mode. You can use the Windows 7 compatibility mode and then try launching the game after applying the settings.
Along with that, you need to also check the administrator permissions box to allow the game file to work on your PC. Changing the compatibility options will only take a minute if you know what you’re doing. After allowing the admin privileges, you should launch the game again to see if it works for your game. Hopefully, you won’t be dealing with the unspecified error in Medieval 2 and you can advance your kingdom peacefully without worrying about crashes.
- Rebuild Game
The last thing that you can try to fix the unspecified error is by rebuilding the game from the Steam client. But before you do that, you will have to disable the security programs like an anti-virus that are operating in the background. Then you can just create a backup of your game folder and remove the folder from the steam game directory.
Now, you need to create another folder with the same name as your Medieval 2 game folder. Launch the Steam client and start the file verification process. The client will download all of the vanilla files back to your PC.
After the rebuilding process is complete, you can launch the game to see if it works. If the game is not crashing at this point, then you need to exit out of the game and then move the game files from the backup folder to the current game folder. Replace the files in the destination and that should update your progress in the game.
You won’t have to deal with unspecified errors anymore and your game should work perfectly after the rebuild process is complete. However, if you need further assistance then you can contact the support team or use community forums to interact with other players.

I just bought Medievel 2 Total War: Gold Edition and tried to run it after installation and got the following error:

Is this your first time trying to play it?
Have you installed any mods?
What are your computeer specs as in memory, cpu, video card/chip?
Would you please post your dxdiag in spoiler tags?First impression is its a bad install.

yes its the first time I tried to install it and definitely wouldnt have any mods
i checked the preferences file in the game folder and it only displays two lines:

Spoiler tags — as FinnKing mentioned above you need to have the text «wrapped» by the tags. The easiest way to do it is to type out what you need to, highlight it all and then select the «Radiation» symbol above the reply window. This should encase the text in a Spoiler tag.

You might play it but not for long.
Your cpu is low end for thiis game.
Your graphics chip is not made for Medieval2. I had one. You may play on low settings with no eyecandy and no battles but it will lag bad.
You don’t have enough memory sharing it with your graphics chip to last long. You get a good campaign going and it will ctd, BSOD, or just lock up your system to the point the only option is a hard reboot because no memory left.Other than that, it’s a bad install.

16mb graphics chip will not show the game on the screen.
You do have an AGP slot but the price of one to run this game in my opinion is not worth it. Make sure your power supply is big enough for the extra load.
152mb ram for this game is minimum. If you did put in a graphics card, this little ram will cause serious lag and deep into a campaign ctds.
Even with a graphics card you need more ram to fight battles.In other words you need a new computer.

There are 2 diffrerent solutions for people who use ati and nvidia cards
Ati people:update to 9.12 catalyst or whatever but DO NOT install hdmi audio driver!!!If you have already installed the graphics driver uninstall it use driver sweeeper and install it again without HDMI audio Driver
NVidia people:just unistall your current driver and use 195.62 version!!!
My brother has an NVdia card and I have an ati card after updating the game with would both get the unspecified error randomly,after updating his NVdia driver to 195.62 the unspecified error has dissapeared permantly!For me it took a while to figure out what to remove in order to get rid of this error,2 days ago i updated an ati driver and for some reason the HDMI audio driver did not install id did not care since i do not use it,i then played MTW2 and since then no «unspecified error» for 3 days now,my brother hasn’t had an unspecified error for months so these solutions are gauranted to work.!

I hoped to find the answer to the same problem in this thread, but I really have no luck today.
I just got my computer back from the store, with a clean installation of Vista and was eager to install MTW again, but got this same ‘unspecified error’ when trying to run the game. I never had this error when previously trying to install the game, and I have enjoyed playing for about two years (always had Vista). But now, unfortunately, it won’t let me play!
My computer is definately capable of running the game, as I played it lots before. I’m not a computer genious though, so I hoped to find a solution to this problem here..

There are things that never seem to get done in a shop environment and one is updates.
Make sure you have Vista activated again or you will miss a lot of stuff.
1. After you activate it, run Microsoft Update until there is nothing left including the optional software. Don’t touch the hardware ones.
2. If you have the disc, reinstall your motherboard drivers.
3. Go to Microsoft’s website and manually install directx 9.0c from there. Diectx 10 is not backward compatible and Vista won’t do it.
4. Update your video drivers.
5. Uninstall the game, delete the two Sega folders, run a registry cleaner, and reboot for good luck.
6. Install the game and the patches.Good luck.

Divide and Conquer – это большой саб-мод, включающий в себя множество новых фракций, сотни юнитов и событий, раскрывающих Средиземье, как никогда. Играйте за одну из 26 фракций, от дунаданов Севера до гавани Умбара.
После долгих лет тяжёлой работы, смены десятков членов команды и сотен часов кропотливого труда, наконец-то саб-мод дошёл до релизного дня. Пока саб-мод находится в состоянии беты, но в отличие от других бет (и беты Рима 2!), он полностью играбельный. Большого количества багов не ожидается, но пока баланс нуждается в корректировке.
Что нового:
Игровые события – не важно, за какую фракцию вы играете, вы будете всегда в курсе всех событий Средиземья, благодаря системе эвентов.
Khazad-dûm – Балин поставил себе цель восстановить Морию в её былом величии. Поведёте ли вы его через опасные земли и сможете ли вы восстановить древнее царство гномов? А сможете ли вы выстоять, когда тьма откроет все свои секреты?
Распри кланов Энедвайта – настало время для Энедвайта явить себя всему миру. Многочисленные кланы имеют свои собственные цели. Держите Энедвайт объединённым или же он развалится на куски.
Настоящий бой – продвинутая система балансировки юнитов, сделает ход битв и бой юнитов более достоверным и реальным.

Здравствуйте уважаемые форумчане)У меня возникла проблема с сабмодом Divide and Conquer.Суть проблемы в следующем-после установки сабмода на чистую версию Third Age 3.2 игра запускается,но после выбора любой фракции в кампании,происходит вылет(Путь установки D:Games:Medieval 2 Total War:Mods:Third Age.Версия сабмода 1.2.Выдает вот такую ошибку-Medieval 2 total war encountered an unspecified error and will now exit.Подскажите пожайлуста в чем может быть дело.Заранее спасибо)

Это стандартное сообщение об ошибке не несущее конкретики.
Попробуйте не находится длительно в меню выборе фракций и сразу же запускать кампанию.

Мод запускается и зависает на начальной картинке. Ставил так: скачал с moddb 3 части + патч 1.2, рапаковал в папку Third_age_3.
И еще у меня зависает стандартный medieval 2 когда захожу в любые настройки кроме титров. Кампания при этом играбельна. В Teutonic таких проблем нет. Чистый Third age работает, но с зависанием в настройках.
Repack Gold by Elita. Windows 10. i7-4700mq gt740m.

К сожалению М2-ТВ нестабильно работает с Win 10 , игра старая и она не адаптированна по новые виндовсы, хотя говорят что есть репак с последней Стим версии (не стандартная пиратка 1.5, а какая то более поздняя) и он адекватно воспринимает работу.

Нет,вылетают и битвы.Может дело в самой Medieval,попробовать скачать другую сборку.Хотя сам мод Third Age без DAC работает.

Если Third Age 3.2 работал нормально то явно при установке «Divide and Conquer» что то не туда установилось.
Точно не помню но там вроде есть разница между самой Divide and Conquer 1.0 и патчем 1.2 в плане того в какую папку указывать им установку.

У меня на 10х64 работает более-менее нормально, дисковая версия.

Кароч единственный раз когда ето помогло
Запускайте Medieval II Total War в режиме совместимости с Windows XP(Пакет 3) (ПКМ на ярлык -> Совметимость -> Поставить галку и вибрать) (Возможно нужна тема с решением проблемы)
Все вышеперечисленные траблы исчезли.

Скачал этот чудо патчик,однако при запуске игры выскакивает сообщение Medieval 2 Total War encountered an unspecified error and will now exit Может кто знает в чём проблема? Диск пиратский,патч ставил с редактированием реестра и заменой пиратского exe на оригинальный (при установке патча),игру запускал с помощью образа оригинального диска,патч европейский и ставился почему то от силы минуты 3-5,хотя весит не мало

Проблема ссотоит в том, что патч некоторые файлы не заменяет, а изменяет их внутреность, из-за этого некоторые файлы стали битые и скорее всего нерабочие.
Из-за них МТВ2 и вылетает.
Пиратка в оригинале какой версии?… (Язык и хто делал)

Проблема явно в том, что паки пиратки отличаються от оригинала…
Вопрос правда состоит в том как это лечить…
Едиственный метод, что поможет 100% — это скачать или ПОЛНУЮ копию английской/немецкой/китайской версии или купить лиценз…
попробуй рапаковать паки… И запустить гейму с распаковаными файлами, переименовав папку пакс.
Если паки распакуються, но игра не запуститься, то возможно еще можно полечить это, если паки не распакуться — то ищи нормальную версию МТВ2

Русские пиратки походу в реестре не так засвечены как лицензионки… но я точно не скажу, у меня немецкая версия из торента )) самая первая которая появилась ) 
Ясно дело я её давно по руски говорить научил, но это не в этой теме обсуждать надлежит )) 
Может мне патч 1.2 с автоинсталлом ждать…
Попробуй…
Хотя проще лицензию взять, чем ждать
ТОже вариант ) если проще взять ) то лучше взять — и разрабам в копилку плюс и тебе больше мучица непридёца… незабывай же аддон ещё выйдет уже в этом году тоже.

Скачал с шела патчик и установил, пришлось заново переустановить игру, по ходу злее стал супостат! Lands_To_Conquer_v2.3 прикольная штука! 
Друг! Не хера не понял, помоги! Прошел по всему и в итоге скачался хитрый файлик- далее чего? Спс!!!!!!!

Патч весит 613 метров. Я качал с одной из ссылок на оф. форуме.
Погамал чуть-чуть за Испанию. Бросилось в глаза то, что отношения с союзниками постоянно улучшаются. В оригинале такого не было. Папа объявил КП, прошло уже 7 ходов, но никто из европейцев еще не откликнулся. 
Цель — Антиохия, забитая, кстати, войсками египтян. Кажется, что теперь целевой город пустовать не будет. Португалия со мной в союзе, отношения отличные и пока что предательства со стороны соседа замечено не было. Мавры нейтральны и заняты войной с Сицилией, поэтому с южного направления угрозы нет. На такткарте видел, что вражеская кавалерия после чарджа разворачивается и отходит для новой атаки.
В общем, пока что трудно что-то сказать, надо играть больше.
